Political Wire: Palin Asks People to Join Her -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

  • michelle2008 · 4 months ago
"I've never thought I needed a title before one's name to forge progress in America."

God, this woman can butcher the English language like no one since Norm Crosby (and he did it for comic effect). It's better to read what she says instead of hearing her say it because of the fingernails-on-chalkboard quality of her voice. I don't understand how ANYONE can think she is a wonderful representative of anything!
  • euphgeek · 4 months ago
It's kind of funny. The posts on conservative websites like FreeRepublic and TeamSarah run from enthusiastic cheering for her to run in 2012 to a sort of "why-hast-thou-forsaken-me" attitude. A few supporters are very confused and worried that this means that Sarah is no longer viable to be a presidential candidate. Of course, I've known this since August 29, 2008.
  • mherlihy · 4 months ago
I think her characterization of the media, "predictable, ironic, and as always, detached," is really curious. I don't think that describes the media reaction to her resignation at all. I would describe them as "surprised, puzzled, and wildly guessing at to what her inane rationale might be."

Maybe her words are more describing herself?
  • euphgeek · 4 months ago
I'm not sure I would characterize Palin as "predictable." "Ironic" isn't a word that jumps immediately to mind, either. "Detached" would probably be accurate, though. One thing is for sure, though -- she'll be a good source of comedy if she tries to run for the nomination in 2012.
  • 66kicks · 4 months ago
    Nah, she's a college-educated journalist who knows what's what and where's where.

The rest of us are asking "Why? Why?"
  • Meffy · 4 months ago
Not to mention "Wah wah wah wah waaaaahhh..."

    http://www.sadtrombone.com/

(Ask not for whom the trombone wahs; it wahs for Failin' Palin, not for thee.)
  • Delphine61 · 4 months ago
    My boner son salutes you.
  • Meffy · 4 months ago
Cool, I can only play trombone via computer emulation. :-} The real thing is a lot harder to play. Salute right back.
  • euphgeek · 4 months ago
I can play the trombone, just not as well as the euphonium (hence my screenname).
  • Meffy · 4 months ago
    @euphgeek: That's what I was thinking / hoping it meant. :-}
  • Delphine61 · 4 months ago
Well thanks to both of you, I'll be singing about the seventy-six trombones
and double-belled euphoniums in my head for the rest of the evening...
  • Meffy · 4 months ago
Yay! I'll play "Come Into the Garden Maude" on the ophicleide!

Do I have this correct? Sarah Palin asks us to join her as she quits us? "Methinks the woman doth protest too much."
  • EducatorsForChange · 4 months ago
Political Wire had a great quote in one of it's stories today:

A man is not finished when he's defeated. He's finished when he quits.
    -Richard Nixon
  • mag7 · 4 months ago
It's amazing how already the media is evil for simply reporting that she quit her post. At any rate, her exposure will now concentrate on Fox News and other safety nets since she does not have the courage to answer real questions. But her current unpopularity in Alaska may keep following her -I'm sure there are more stories of the real Sarah coming out.
  • SaoMagnifico · 4 months ago
    I'm not joining her.

    Bye, Sarah.
  • dkw4 · 4 months ago
Bye, bye Sarah. It will be so nice for you to stay home and raise your children. They need you. I do not. Please stop asking me for money. You quit your job. That was your decision, not mine.
  • laughingdog · 4 months ago
Honestly, I get the sense that her children would be better off if she was home less and/or left it to someone else to raise them as much as possible.
  • KurtBusiek · 4 months ago
    I'll join her!

I'm quitting my gubernatorial post, too!
  • gjdodger · 4 months ago
Well, it's really kinda simple. Sarah has quit because you can't be governor and be the founder of your own personality cult at the same time. She's not saying, "Follow me"; she's saying, "Worship me."
  • jan115 · 4 months ago
I can't believe it. With all of Sarah Palin's remarkable incompetence we are now focussed on upgrading her to the level of "quitter." Come on, It's like the best thing you can say about her. Besides, I don't really want her to quit because dadgummit that woman is entertaining.
  • okojo · 4 months ago
How was the media's response "predictable" when Governor Palin gave a rambling pretty much incoherent speech, in which she never explain the reason why she resigned?
  • Meffy · 4 months ago
Well, unpredictable would be if the press had lauded her clear thinking, praised her sound decision-making, and admired her straightforward yet eloquent delivery.

    Unexpected, anyway. Hasn't happened yet.
  • Laguna_b · 4 months ago
If I were a betting man, I would bet tht is the way FOX would present it......Fair and Balanced - Joseph Geobbels style!
  • Meffy · 4 months ago
Is that the bit about giving people an enemy and they'll accept any lie? Or if you tell it often enough?
  • Laguna_b · 4 months ago
Her thesis is always simple sound bites, nothing solid or tangible. She is for energy independence which to her means burn all our oil while it is relatively cheap now so that when it is gone we can be totally dependent on countries that will then charge us much more and we won't even have jet fuel to invade with.

Less government interference in what? Mortgage derivatives etc? She learns nothing from history....even from month away...
  • Chredon · 4 months ago
Her plan for energy independence is to cut off all supplies of foreign oil, thus hyper-inflating the price of domestic oil, the majority of which is in Alaska. Her plan for fiscal restraint is to stop spending money in so many other states, while Alaska continues to attract more federal dollars per capita than any other state AND take a percentage of the value of their natural resources as state income (which no other state is allowed to do). Her plan for less government intervention is to limit it to only telling people how they should be educating their kids about sex.

But I find this one the best quote:

"Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation achieve greatness!"

Which would imply that she DOESN'T think our nation is great now. Sarah Palin thinks America is not a great nation.
  • Laguna_b · 4 months ago
In the end we must replace our dependance on foreign oil with domestic renewables. In the meantime, we should heavliy tax domestic production (yes that means we grow short term MORE dependent on foreign oil) and tax gasoline at the pump ~2$/gallon like Europe to heavily discourage usage. Use the tax revenues to suppliment and subsidize electrification of transportation to eliminate fossil fuels.

10 years down the road will will have most of our remaining reserves of oil, the prices will be skyhigh but then we still have supply now worth $300/bbl. It will be used mainly for high value usage (plastics, manufacturing etc) And most vehicles will be electrified usng renewable sources.

Palin plan: 10 years down the road: Continued usage of fossil fuels, ONLY foreign sources at $300/bbl, domestic sources depleted at bargain basement prices sub $150 and lower. We are totally screwed....

Unfortunately 10 years is way beyond any real election cycle and we know how short term that makes thinking....
  • Meffy · 4 months ago
Exactly. Nor does she recognize that Obama is already handling exactly that chore quite well without her dubious input.
  • Chredon · 4 months ago
It puts me in mind of Michelle Obama's "proud for the first time in my life" quote, and I think the left-wing pundits should be running with it.

Sarah Palin thinks America is not a great nation!
  • Meffy · 4 months ago
Sounds good to me. Even the Real America isn't great until she makes it great, y'know.
  • pisher · 4 months ago
Yes, it is time to rebuild our nation's greatness.

By getting all the other narcissistic rightwing nutjobs out of politics as well.

Thanks for showing us the way, Sarah.

    :D
  • Ivee · 4 months ago
Join her in what -- quitting their jobs?
  • Patrick12 · 4 months ago
I believe it was a congresswoman from her own party that said "only cowards cut and run". Way to hang in there Sarah.
  • DrTrocar · 4 months ago
" I hope you will join me. Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation achieve greatness!"

Hey brightbrains, we are currently making an effort to dig out of the mess that the repugnicans got us into, and YOU were apart of team that would have continued digging. You lost, go away. In other words shut the (rhymes with "duck") up. You are a ZERO.
  • Canadian4Obama · 4 months ago
What exactly does she want people to join her in doing? Quitting their jobs? She is so full of shit I can smell it from Toronto.
  • Chredon · 4 months ago
I guess my biggest question is, what does Sarah have to do between now and Jan 2011 that's so important that she has to quit her job?

Wouldn't she be much better served, politically, to finish her term, take maybe one trip to the 'lower 48' each month to gather support, and just not run for re-election? She would be out of office by January 2011, which would give her 22 months to run for President, which is certainly more than enough time to get her message across.

Something here is not right. Something here stinks.
  • Meffy · 4 months ago
Agreed, things don't add up. If this were a Ken Ken puzzle, it would be broken. Since it's not... well, it's still broken. Guess we'll have to wait to see what revelations the future will bring.
  • KISSman · 4 months ago
This woman is a wackadoodle! I think she's drank her own Koolaid and believes that she is more important than she is.

Don't be surprised if the Wasilla Hillbillies move down here to the 'lower 48' in an effort to give her an even higher profile. My prediction is that she'll run (and fail) in the 2012 presidential primaries and then run for a senate seat in whichever state she lands in after that.

While Palin annoys the hell out of me, I think Democrats only benefit from her being the face of the Republican Party. I can't think of anyone that scares me less than her in the political world.
  • Chredon · 4 months ago
Palin doesn't scare me that much because she actually wields very little political power (and in a few weeks, she will wield even less). People like John Boehner and Eric Cantor scare me more - because they're whack jobs AND powerful members of Congress.
  • DrTrocar · 4 months ago
Amen, and well stated, Chredon. How bout sniveling whacko's?
  • Chredon · 4 months ago
They don't snivel, they bombast. Palin is the one who is sniveling.

But I don't totally discount Palin. She has the ability to make the truly dissociative members of the GOP sit up and listen - but she's not smart enough to craft an effective message on her own. She frightens me only when I compare her to our former idiot-in-chief Mr. Bush. Palin and Bush have a lot of the same qualities - a folksy and appealing manner, an interesting personal background, a message that resonates with some of the far-right members of the party. Surround Palin with a team of take-no-prisoners savvy political operatives, and she could cause a lot of trouble as long as she can stay on script. All she needs to change about herself is to put aside her conviction that she knows best. If she could take direction, follow instructions, trust her political handlers, and not insert her foot every time she opens her mouth, she might go far.

Fortunately for the rest of us, Palin thinks that she knows best. Her husband is the only adviser she will listen to, and he's as out of touch as she is.

So I hope she's on her way to Fox News to anchor her own show. In terms of gaffe-production, she'll make Michael Steele look like Daniel Webster. She'll make Joe Biden look like Calvin Coolidge. And she'll quit after six months, thus reinforcing the image that she created on Friday.

BTW: She also resigned from the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission before she ran for Governor. She attended five different colleges. She apparently doesn't have the ability to stick anything out, to see anything through to the end.

Now that will make me feel like a pervert every time i think of tina fey.
  • jbnt729 · 4 months ago
Really? You want to sign up for someone who claimed that Obama was a terrorist, but refused to share her evidence with the FBI. It makes one wonder whose side you and your God Sarah is on.

Unless you are from Alaska, doesn't it make you sick how much of our hard-earned tax dollars she takes (as a good socialist) to give to her state.
  • LaLee · 4 months ago
No offense, but are you related to Palin or something?

Because i don't understand how anyone could support her after all her screw ups.

Even if one is to believe that all the charges against her are false it still doesn't discount the fact that Palin screwed her self up publicly and politically, from her interview with Couric, her debate against Biden and now her resignation BEFORE HER FIRST TERM IS UP.

In my opinion all those things shows that she's not smart or strong enough to lead anything bigger than Wasilla.

Your delusional and, as of today, you are also a liar. No pundit ever told Sarah Palin to resign as Governor of Alaska halfway through her term, as you suggested earlier today, and you know it. You are a liar.

  • CarlCampos · 4 months ago
    Quitter? You betcha!
  • Joseph Granata · 4 months ago
Sounds to me she started running for President and is trying to get donations for that run but instead of saying she is running she wants people to join her in her move.

I mean first she created a PAC where she could easily change it to the Sarah Palin President 2012 inc. quickly, then she resigns as Governor because she doesn't want to be a lame duck Governor, gee does that mean she will quit being President after 2and half years because she doesn't want to be a lame duck President. I mean she would basically assume she will win reelection and then resigns because if she ran and won she would automatically become a lame duck. I am so confused. Sarah Palin ruly is stupid. Ge and I thought GWB was an idiot.
  • pbrower2a · 4 months ago
Her resignation makes about as much sense as... the sound of a toilet flushing.

She has just shown herself as the "Lena Lamont" (Singin' in the Rain) of American politics. I just hope that the sequel isn't Sunset Boulevard!

Ex-politicians going to partisan media? You betcha! But as a rule it is after one's term ends! She's a gaffe machine, and I can just imagine her idea of the "Real America" as a signature graphic: a map of America with all the big cities somehow extricated.

I'd suggest "Northern Overexposure" except that some comedy program already used that in a parody of her.
