Sen. Smith is campaigning for Sen. Obama in Oregon after all :P Not saying it's great on the national level, but Montana isn't exactly a mainstream state.

Additionally, that whole careful about throwing stones in glass houses thing comes to mind. The Republicans are, last time I checked the "Party of Family Values" as represented by Sen. Craig and Rep Fowley :P

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

Well, it's a better strategy than sitting around waiting for someone else to ask. Still, you'd think the GOP could have found someone to run who hadn't dropped out of a monastery and three marriages because they couldn't get their boners under control.

Ed
atalkinged.com

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

Can you say Hypocrite? So a Dem can bash gays and it alright. I am laughing at you right now

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

Sadly, these should not be voting issues. But you live by the sword, more often than not it seems, the GOP candidate dies by the sword.

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

Its been in recent history that MT has turned blue. Baucus was the only major Democrat in the state for years, and he's a pretty conservative one. The Dems took over the governorship in 2002, the state congress in 2004, and the other Senate seat in 2006. I think Obama's chance in MT is much better than most think. The two items you list would guarantee Obama MT, but he doens't necessarily need them to win it. However, its not a lock by any stretch either.

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

MT has long been somewhat "blue" for things other than Presidential races. I am wondering if the lack of a strong challenge to either Baucus or Schwitzer will actually dampen enthusiasm and turnout for both parties. But I think Obama is unlikely to win in MT unless either (1) it is a nationwide blowout like '64, or (2) there is an unexpectedly strong conservative 3d party campaign like in '92.

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

The Baucus and Schweitzer coattails will not hurt Obama either. Two popular Democrats up for reelection for Senator and Governor. And the latest poll has Obama UP 5 POINTS in MT. Like VA, its another state turning blue.

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

I have NOOOO opinion about that Senate race. Not my state, etc. I don't even know that much about Baucus. But this seems like such a disarming thing to do that I am somewhat charmed.

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

That is RICH! A coworker of mine, upon reading the above, called him a "serial breeder". LOL

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

In defense of the Montana GOP (which is getting increasingly difficult to defend), I want to point out that Kelleher is not really a Republican. His past cadidacies have been as a Democrat, and (in 2002) on the Green Party ticket. On most policy matters, his views are essentially the complete opposite of the Republican position. His primary win was a fluke, due to his having some name recognition and there being 6 names on the ballot. It would be funny, if it weren't so painful (for me, as a Montana Republican).

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

And he's probably one of the better Senatorial candidates those chuckleheads have in the bullpen.

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

Kelleher sounds like another one of those "family values" Republicans.

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

I just had to find out about the ad ran against Taylor, Baucus' 2002 opponent, that forced him to drop out. Here's a graph from a story at the time.

"What incensed Taylor was the film clip accompanying the ad. Taylor had a twice weekly segment in the early 1980s on a Denver television station. The clip shows Taylor applying lotions to the face of a man siting in the barber chair and discussing techniques. The ad shows Taylor, then slender, sporting a full beard. He is wearing a tight-fitting, three piece suit, with a big-collared open shirt ala John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever." Taylor's top two or three shirt buttons are unbuttoned, exposing some bare chest and a number of gold chains."

The ad indicated that Taylor was a gay hairdresser. Horrible and hilarious. I'm ashamed at myself for laughing.

Re: Baucus Challenger Tries to Preempt Personal Attacks -- Political Wire

Go to his website... http://www.bobkelleher2008....

Hit the Biography tab and this appears 'Under Construction'

How utterly appropriate.
